Bad Girls Just Wanna
Have Fun…
At House of Hope Minnesota we believe in Proverbs 22:6;
“Train a child in the way she should go, and when she is old she will not
turn from it.” With that in mind, we instill in our residents the importance
of Bible reading and study. For the past ten weeks, staff and
residents have been on journey through the book Bad Girls of the Bible and What We Can Learn from Them by
Liz Curtis Higgs. Ten of the Bible’s best-known females parade across
the pages of this book with
situations that are oh-so-familiar to each of us.
“Eve had
food issues. Potiphar’s Wife and Delilah had man troubles. Lot’s Wife and Michal
couldn’t let go of the past, Sapphira
couldn’t let go of her money, and Jezebel
couldn’t let go of anything. Yet the Woman at the
Well quenched her thirst for the truth, while Rahab and the Sinful Women left
their sordid histories behind, proving Bad Girls can have a gloriously good
future.”
These stories have spoken into the lives of the residents
at House of Hope Minnesota. The women came alive as we reflected on
what they did, why they did it, and what godly direction they should have
taken instead. With the help of Higg’s entertaining yet honest
approach, our residents learned how to analyze each story without casting
judgment on the women involved. We were able to identify too often with
what each woman went through, seeing ourselves in the women who were both
“bad for a moment” and “bad for a season,” while learning how to protect
ourselves through Christ from becoming like those who are “bad to the bone”.
This study was a blessing as it taught our girls to
understand the steps to necessary to rethink their lives and to accept the
plans God has for them. The grace, mercy, and judgment of our Lord was
revealed in ways that we will keep in our hearts forever.
